Tipping Point Workshop Overview

Introduction | OverviewBackground | Details Summary

Through an interactive computer simulator, Change, Dialogue, Action: Applying the Tipping Point to Organizational Change (or the Tipping Point Workshop for short) helps participants discover how to create an environment for successful, sustainable change. At its center, an organization change is an idea about getting work done faster, better, or at lower cost. The Tipping Point simulator leverages the fact that ideas become contagious and spread when people advocate them. The best advocates are people with expertise in the area affected by the change who also have experience with it and enthusiasm for it. Leaders who support these advocates by making their own commitment clear, providing needed tools and information, recognizing efforts, and rewarding successes create the context for the new idea to spread. The simulator puts these ideas together and provides a platform for friendly competition, which makes these ideas come alive and allows participants can see them in action.

The Tipping Point Workshop has been very helpful, during such transformative times. It provides us with a common language when discussing how to move forward with necessary changes.” —Sebastian Wilson, City of Seattle, Parks and Recreation

What it does

Change, Dialogue, Action: Applying the Tipping Point to Organizational Change is a fun, effective way to get change leaders actively involved. After an overview of the Tipping Point theory, teams vie against each other to create the best change strategy. The challenge of creating the best strategy fosters experimentation and focuses dialogue on the factors that can turn a theoretical idea into a viable change initiative. The Workshop can be used by managers planning a specific initiative or for general training on implementing an initiative.

What to expect

  • Experimenting with the factors that affect change, using an interactive computer simulator, creates an experimental learning environment that is also fun.
  • Focused dialogue with teammates creates a shared and common vision of how to implement a change.
  • Using the simulator illustrates ways to create commitment to your organizational change and how this affects the likelihood of success.
  • The Workshop gives you the practical tools to make your organizational change both contagious and sustainable.

Who should attend

Change, Dialogue, Action works best with 15-35 people. These can be a cross-section of people affected by the change or an intact team. It is always good to include:
